Townsend Bowls Club Opening  Week

Opening Day 13th April 2019

The traditional opening day match between the President and the Club Captain was graced with added sparkle by the presence of Councillor Annie Brewster, who, it has to be said was not wearing the regulation flat soles with her extremely elegant outfit!

Despite her footwear Annie despatched the first jack with skill, and then was only inches away from winning the first prize in the subsequent target bowls. In her brief speech she praised the club for its centenary and commented how bowls was a health promoting sport that deserved an even greater following.

The match between the President and Captain ended in honours even, with the President winning on shots, by 68-61; the Captain on ends won. Top winning rinks for the President were Annabel Alcock, Ian Forster, Fred Mulberry and Peter Thomson who won by  26-8, and for the Captain, Gordon Clapworthy, Ron Seymour, John Oakey and skip Jane Dixon, who recorded a 23-9 victory.

The previous day was an Open Day which attracted many new bowlers to the club. If you missed that opportunity then please contact our County Coach, Clyde Martindill, on 01727 852361 and come along and have a go!
